Abstract

AIM

This final period of the year was dedicated to organizing two important events, in Pisa on November 7 and 8, and in Naples on December 11 and 12, 2025.

The third edition of the Pisa Neurological Days and Pisa Muscle Award was organised by Professors Gabriele Siciliano, Michelangelo Mancuso, and Giulia Ricci and hosted in the evocative setting of the Museum of Ancient Roman Ships. The event included multidisciplinary sessions, workshops, and keynote lectures, promoting dialogue between researchers, clinicians, and patient organizations for an integrated and innovative approach to muscle diseases.

The Pisa Muscle Award this year awarded to Professor Amelia Evoli, Associate Professor of Neurology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, known for her neuroimmunological studies, particularly in myasthenia gravis and neuromuscular junction disorders both nationally and internationally.

The IV Symposium on FSHD, held in Naples on December 11 and 12, brought together prestigious national and international experts at Palazzo Caracciolo to discuss advances in genetic and molecular research on Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy. Other topics included the identification of new biomarkers, the evolution of therapeutic strategies, and updates on international standards of care.

The symposium was organized by Professor Lucia Ruggiero, researcher and medical director of the Neurology Unit, headed by Professor Fiore Manganelli. The initiative represented an important opportunity to foster dialogue between the scientific community, clinicians, and patient associations, with the shared goal of improving the diagnostic and therapeutic pathway and the quality of life of people with FSHD.

The next step will be the organization of the XXVI AIM congress that will be held in Bologna from May 13 to 16, 2026, as a joint event with the XVI annual meeting of the Italian Peripheral Nerve Association. More information is available at https://www.firstclassevents.com

e-NMD

The 5th eNMD conference in E-health & innovation to Overcome Barriers in Neuromuscular Diseases was held in Palermo, Italy, on November 28-29, 2025. The event was organised by Sabrina Sacconi (F), Bernedikt Schoser (G), Gabriele Siciliano and Antonio Toscano (I).

MSM

The 14th Meeting of the Mediterranean Society of Myology (MSM) will likely take place in 2027, as a joint event with the XXVII Meeting of the Italian Association of Myology.

NIL Association

The Association of the Italian Network of Laminopathies (NIL) started its activity in 2009 with the aim of promoting biomedical and clinical research on Laminopathies. It was established as a legal entity in Bologna on July 14th, 2023. The Association is open to all those who want to share its perspectives, statute and regulations. The XXXI Meeting of the Network was in Bologna, on November 7th, 2025 at the Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna Room Conference. The meeting, as usual, hosted contributions on the muscular, cardiac, endocrine and systemic aspects of laminopathies from Italian and European speakers. For the first time, the NIL Award was established and awarded to Dr. Carlotta Ronchi of the CNR in Milan for the best oral communication.

WMS

The 30th International Annual Congress of the World Muscle Society was in Vienna, Austria from 7th to 11th October, 2025. The main thematic topics of the congress were:

Topic 1 - Neuromuscular diseases as multi-systemic disorders

Topic 2 - Multidisciplinary management of neuromuscular diseases

Topic 3 - Advances in therapies and drug development

While celebrating a milestone WMS anniversary in Vienna, delegates enjoyed some sensational surprises, in addition to all the features they’ve come to expect from a WMS Congress. A cutting-edge scientific program; posters and short oral presentations from around the world; access to leading industry experts; and virtually unlimited networking opportunities, all enhanced by a demonstration by the Austrian national wheelchair football team, a cake-cutting ceremony, and the screening of the 30th anniversary commemorative film.

The 31st International Annual Congress of the World Muscle Society will be in Hiroshima, Japan from 29th September to 3rd October, 2026. More information is available at https://www.worldmusclesociety.org/
